As far back as I can remember it was customary for our family to speak about Fr. Solanus Casey in a loving way. As residents of Detroit during the Great Depression, my grandparents were visitors of St. Bonaventure Monastery and the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. Here are some instances how Fr. Solanus helped our family. A few months after having their fifth child, my grandparents noticed something wrong with his foot and he was diagnosed with the beginning stages of polio. They called and asked for Fr. Solanus to come and pray over their child. As they stood outside the room, Fr. Solanus placed his hands over his head and foot and prayed. When he was fin-ished, he said, “Your child is going to be fine.” And he was! Several years after Fr. Solanus’ death, their 9 year old grand-child was struck by a vehicle. He was in a coma with a brain injury and the doctors expressed little hope. My grandparents went to St. Bonaventure Monastery and visited Fr. Solanus’ grave and prayed. Then one of the friars gave them a relic of Fr. Solanus and said, “Pin this onto your grandson’s hospital gown and advise the family and hospital staff not to remove it for three days and to continue praying.” My grandparents stayed and prayed by his bedside. After three days, he awoke without brain damage! Truly another miracle! I know that Fr. Solanus is supposed to be part of my life. Thank you for all you do to keep the memory of Venerable Solanus alive. P.A.L.
I am a certified nurse aide who worked for the Franciscan Sis-ters for 24 years. While there, one of the sisters introduced me to Fr. Solanus Casey with prayer cards and a badge with his relic. I was taken by the story of his life and began my prayer to him. About two years ago, I had my yearly mammogram and they found a small lump. I saw a surgeon and I was scared so I prayed to Fr. Solanus for healing and pinned that relic badge to my bra. After three months, I had a biopsy and I was prepared for the worst. After prepping me for surgery, they couldn’t find the spot. It has been a year and a half now and still no sign of a lump. I’m still praying daily and have spread the word about Solanus to family and friends. I am a faithful believer in prayers, and even miracles. L.C.
My baby sister had cancer in 2015 and was in remission but this year we found out the cancer was back and spreading. The doctors gave her a 20% chance of survival even after chemo. We never gave up and told the doctors Our Lord is bigger than 20%. When we went to the appointment last week, we got the results of her PET scan and there is no sign of a tumor in her body and nothing that showed any cancer. We came to the Healing Service every Wednesday for the last month and thank Fr. Solanus for all the blessings! M.M.
This is about my grandson who is 2 ½ years old and not speaking. The doctors thought he was deaf. A doctor put tubes in his ears but they became infected. I called and asked for prayers from Fr. Solanus. The infection completely cleared and my grandson is beginning to talk non-stop. Yes, we begged for Fr. Solanus’ help, but wow, this Child of God has not been quiet since! From the bottom of my heart, a thank you is not sufficient for what you have done, Fr. Solanus. Every time he starts to make noise I will praise God and you. Thank You! H.K.
When my 17 year old daughter was 6 months old, we noticed she
didn’t use her left hand so I mentioned this at her 6 month check-up. The doctor suggested this was not normal so we proceeded with
tests, including an MRI which revealed the left side of her brain hadn’t formed correctly. As the years went on she was a happy baby and child, but had the need for speech therapy, OT, PT and special help in school. Prayers were always answered by finding the right therapist or teacher to help her along. When she began school, her great aunt gave her a medallion with a piece of Fr. Solanus’ robe inside. We kept that close
to her and put it in her pillow case. This past fall, interesting things started happening. She is confirmed and a Peer Minister at our parish. As she sat to lead her first group of Confirmation Candidates, she heard and
felt a voice say “Thank you for allowing me to help you.” Then we received the Guild Newsletter, and the next week I put on a jacket I hadn’t worn in a while. Inside the pocket was the medal with the
piece of cloth touched to Fr. Solanus’ tomb. That same week my daughter was helping her grandmother and came home with a prayer card of Fr. Solanus. “Grandma found this while we were cleaning and gave it to me.” Also, I found a card from the Solanus Guild in an un- likely place. As I picked up the card I felt “it’s time for my daughter’s complete healing.” God bless you for all you do. I will always appre- ciate the gift of the Fr. Solanus Medallion. S.M.
I believe there may have been a miracle that can be attributed
to Fr. Solanus. A young man fell from a roof and was in a coma for almost a month. I gave his family a second class relic and they also had a third class relic by his bed. He is awake now and the doctors are surprised he is alive and improving. He has had a conversion of spirit. He also had a vision of everyone praying for him. By all accounts he should have major brain damage, instead he’s making arrangements to go home. This is beyond excellent medical care, it is a miracle! We thank Venerable Solanus Casey for his intercession. We are forever grateful! G.K.
Last February my mother came down with pneumonia so we took her to the hospital. Her case was so severe that at one point her heart dropped to 15 beats per minute. The doctor didn’t believe she’d pull through so I left a prayer card of Fr. Solanus in her room. I chose Fr. Solanus Casey because she met him when he was in Indiana in the 1950’s. I told her to “pray for his intercession; if you’re unable to pray, think about him; and if you can’t do that, just look at his picture.” Ever since then, she steadily improved. In mid-March she graduated to the advanced healthcare facility. In early April she was admitted to a nursing home. In late May she was transferred to a non-restrictive facility. On July 19th we got her back home and she has remained mentally clear. Curiously, the doctor who wasn’t giving us much hope is Catholic. The other doctor who disagreed is Muslim! I don’t know if this qualifies as a miracle by the church’s criteria, but for us it was. Yours in Christ, G.K., OH
I was recently tremendously blessed with what I feel was a miraculous answer to prayer regarding my son who lives in New Zealand. Two years ago he was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure & had to go on dialysis treatment. Since he was in the process of applying for residency he was not eligible for the national health care which meant that he paid $12,000 per month out-of-pocket for dialysis treatment. It wasn’t long before he and family and friends were unable to continue funding his treatment.
Consequently, he lost 80% of his eyesight and was on the verge of losing his life when I read about the Venerable Solanus Casey in a newsletter I received in the mail. I immediately began praying for his intercession on behalf of my son. Only hours before he was being forced to leave the country, a ruling was handed down by the Immigration Minister that his residency had been granted. He is now receiving free health care for all his needs and his eyesight is beginning to improve. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Fr. Casey’s prayers were heard and we received a great miracle. Thank you, dearest Fr. Casey. D.D., via email
Thanking God ahead of time is such a beautiful act of faith that God taught me through Fr. Solanus and I am very grateful! Last December I had blood in my urine and had a renal ultrasound which showed 2 larger stones (5mm and 12mm), one in each of my kidneys. The 12mm is too large to ever pass and requires surgery. The 5mm could possibly pass but would cause major pain and could get stuck. I had bleeding on and off for months but no pain, which indicated it could be moving slightly within in the kidney, but not passing.
I listened to a clip on your website from Fr. Solanus’ words & wisdom which related to thanking God ahead of time as an act of faith. This led me to read “Thank God Ahead of Time” and a story about a man who had a tumor. On his way to surgery, Fr. Solanus saw him and told him to have the doctors check it again...it was gone and he didn’t need surgery. I folded this page and “thanked God ahead of time” for the healing of my stones and asked for Fr. Solanus’ intercession.
A few days before the CT scan, I tried to visit the Solanus Casey Center for the first time to ask Fr. Solanus for his intercession at his tomb. The Center was closed due to a power outage that day, but we prayed anyway in the parking lot as a family and asked for Fr. Solanus to intercede. We didn’t need to be in the building for the power of prayer to work...we knew God saw our efforts. My dad had a strong devotion to Fr. Solanus and I feel they were both praying for me.
I had the CT scan on 9/8 to plan surgery options, but the report shows both stones are completely gone, praise God! The radiologist and urologist both looked at it separately and both told me they saw nothing. There is no way these could have passed naturally and both kidneys are now clear! God bless! -Pam
